FOR YOUTH AGES 9-12
Since 1948, the Navy League Cadet program has introduced young Canadians to a nautical life.
Navy League Cadets get to do a lot of fun, interesting activities, in an environment that emphasizes teamwork. The Navy League Cadet Program is a great place to make friends and do things you wouldn't get to do anywhere else.
The Navy League Cadet program welcomes youth between the ages of 9 and 12. Cadets come from many different backgrounds to share a common interest.
HOW OFTEN DO NAVY LEAGUE CADETS MEET?
Most corps (pronounced “core” — that’s what we call each group) meet one evening each week from September to June. Some corps host occasional weekend activities or trips, as well.
IS IT A MILITARY PROGRAM?
No. The Navy League of Canada is a civilian organization. Our cadet program uses a naval theme as a platform to develop good citizenship, leadership, a sense of duty, self-discipline, teamwork, healthy living and respect for others.
HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?
Almost all corps activities are free, though some charge a small administration fee. To help fund Navy League programs and cover the costs of uniforms, cadets and their parents are required to participate in fundraising activities.
DO CADETS HAVE TO BUY UNIFORMS?
No. Cadet uniforms are provided by The Navy League of Canada, however a deposit may be required. Cadets are required to maintain their uniforms and return them when they leave the program.
SINCE THE PROGRAM IS TEMPORARILY BEING OFFERED ON-LINE, WHAT IS BEING OFFERED?
The safety of our cadets and compliance with current health measures is our top concern. We have therefore moved our meetings to be on-line, for 1 hour, every Friday evening from 7pm to 8pm. Every Friday we cover a variety of topics, from naval topics, air and space adventures, cruise ships, the Canadian Coast Guard, marine animals, naval history, geography, basic navigation and more! Our cadets do crafts and presentations and earn certificates that count towards their promotion! Our program is designed around the cadet and they have lots of chance to have fun and to grow all their interests! We hope that you find our program of great interest to you as well!
WILL THERE BE A SUMMER OPPORTUNITY FOR CADETS?
That will depend on the Provincial Health Measures for any in person activity, however we are in the process of creating a series of Interactive Summer Opportunities for our cadets! Stay tuned for more!
